Episode #6 Japan and Beyond

Well Japan was quiet a while back now. probably even 3 weeks ago. But its still worth writing something about, so here it is. Jessa was going to write this for me, but she didnt, or i didnt hassle her enough so im just going to do the highlights.

we took a bus to busan thursday, then taxied to the ferry terminal.
friday we hydrofoiled to Fukuoka, Taxied to the wrong airport terminal, shuttled to the correct one, and got delayed 2 hrs for an unknown reason. flew to Tokyo, and promptly took a monorail to Tokyo Station where we met a helpful Japanese guy and a lady who helped us get to the festival – at 10pm. we missed Muse because of the delay, and werent going to be let in because we were too late. but they called someone, we got in and set up and enjoyed what was left of the night – the cure, tim deluxe and that was about all we knew of. The next day the weather was perfect, saw iggy pop beastie boys, !!!, Kula Shaker, Motion city soundtrack, Scarful kings, Lily Allen, G.Love and Special Sauce, The bird and the bee, missed Feist, and saw a few other dancelike bands at night. The next day saw Chemical Brothers, Mika, The Shins, Battles, DeerHoof,PeterBjorn&John, Clap your hands and Say Yeah. We hung out with clap your hands on our way home for about an hour or so, we were just hanging around this swing thing, and noticed they were there, Jessa picked up one of the drumsticks from them during the show so got them to sign it- they did with names like Slash etc..festival area was great, lots of walking, but the setup was really well done lots to see.

Tokyo was the opposite of korea. Clean, quiet, polite. i think it would be hard to come back to korea again – if not for the money, japan just has a great feeling, the culture seems more mature, more diverse, there are hippies and not everyone is the same and completely rude. . . .the food was better, there WAS more english, but the japanese which is learnable seemed really prominent too. Id have to say im a fan

So besides Japan, notable things happening here. Ah im very sunburnt, missed my back shoulders and stomach, arms neck and face are fine , all from yesterdays very early start for Brighton Beach day…plus side was we had Karaoke on the bus and started to drink at about 11am with the co-workers.  the beach was great. swimming was lots of fun. jessa and i both lost our glasses when we got knocked down by an unexpected wave, found them 5 minutes later- mine float which is good to know. hers dont but an old korean man found them.
bought a 500gig harddrive today so am currently filling it up.
no plans yet for Cheosuk (5 days off in september) might go back to japan and see gio and brendan, might go to taipae or hongkong, we’ll see whats cheaper.

thats all for now. till next time…..

Episode #4 DaeHeukSanDo

Saturday we catched the train to the Mokpo City, and gotted a ferry to HeuksanDo, we started by downing 2 beers we got at the terminal ,on the ferry (tall beers) and bought a small one on the ferry each.
The ferry was super smooth, and seemed to go bye like that(click fingers here)- (2hrs) , we got off the ferry and Cari said,”Theres a cooler”, so we went and bought 3 more beers and sat there and drank while an old guy got closer and closer to Cari, until we were too loud and he moved.
We walked around, wondering where Shinae(downtown) was,(there wasnt one) or at least a beach, , walking around the very few streets; we came across a Mart and bought ourselves 6 beers each. These we took with us to the “Beach Hotel” which -we taxied too, and ended up NOT staying at - walking back to town from ”drinking our sixpacks”stopping half way up the first hill we had to walk up – at a bus stop, catching a ride back to town with a bus driver we gave beer too(see flicker for a shot of him with a beer on his head) and arriving back in town to find a room where we downed our sixpacks, and made our way to a chicken HOF where we at a little bit of chicken , and drank another pint.
After the chickenHOF (once we played One Frog Jumped over A pond Plop -for about an hour -well it felt like that long), we stumbled round outside finding more entertainment, went to an ATM – i blanked out here, and regained memory about 10 minutes later when we went to a Hae Jang Guk restaraunt -which served us;what looked liked used bones , sure the broth was ok, but the bones were nigh-on meatless.  we each had a tall bottle of beer here and left a bit angry at the really bad food.
we stood around outside for about 15 minutes, got another 1.8litres of booze and made our way back to the hotel room.
we listened to music for about an hour, maybe more maybe less, and all five of us passed out only to be constantly woken up by bells ringing, people working, odd sewerage smells, and uncomfortable pillows filled with macaroni.
The next day we took a tour of the island – seeing the windiest road ever, a secluded awesome beach, cool little villages, and ate berries the tourguide stopped to pick for us half way round. Then, made our way home about 2 hours later. train home was slower, but we ended the weekend in the usual style of pizza/photoexchange/ and a quiet few.

Another Good Weekend, photos will be up soon enough.

Nige – Out!

Episode #3 Busan, No Problemo

Busan Adventure, a four day weekend that seemed to just fly-by at an amazing pace. The weather Was perfect. we did get out and about, but i cant help thinking beaches tend to make us very unmotivated for anything more than drinks, frisbee and food.

we got to busan intime to catch the last 2 or 3 hours of sunlight, found a hotel right on the beach and ditched our stuff. had some delicious Thai food , and managed to find a cool bar where the main bartender was so drunk(she was Russian),  she headbutted some korean guy kicked another chick bartender, threw beer glasses, and generally made for an entertaining show for those of us that stayed long enough to see it.

The next day wasnt too bad, mild hang overs and corndogs for breaky didnt sit too well with me as our first stop was a boat ride for an hour round some islands, did catch a cool view of Busan, but i think next time ill save the food till afterwards. We were a bit sketchy anyway as we didnt get home till about 6:30 or 7 with checkout time being 12 and us sleeping till 12 it wasnt the best start to the day(although jumping on the beds wearing smoke masks ala beasty Boys Intergalactic, when we were supposed to be checking out- was alot of fun). but we managed, and ended up having some more good food. and set off a bit later for the beach where at the end of the day, some Jesus guys got us all to move so they could set up seats ALL the way down the beach, so noone could use the beach….or for an awakening one of the two.

That night we saw a good reggae soul band from New Zealand in the university district, drunk lots of jaggermeister, made our way back to the beach, and sat on baywatch towers waiting for the sun to come up. at this point, Jessa’s bag is stolen and we spent 2 hours or so looking for it. found it emptied, but no contents except some soggy Busan tour maps. wallet, phone, keys, books, Gone. Big bummer.

thats about all we got up too, came home the next day,,,,,be back there on our way to Fuji in 2months tomorrow,,,,,. Photos are on flickr as usual. should have a few more in the next few days once i get access to other peoples cameras, yep, mines still busted.

Righton. Busan

 Out!

Episode #2 Cari’s Birthday

WanDo WanDo, i wanna go back to WanDo.

WanDo was the first place Ive seen a full sky of stars in Korea ever. this weekend we all made our way down to WanDo celebrate Cari’s birthday, to get away from GwangJu, and get some much needed sun away from smoggy air. well also to get off our guts on soju and beer;eat some really good calbi, meet some crazy gangsta locals with coffee girls, drunkenly sing the choruses to a handful of songs we didnt know the verses too around a campfire we were told not to build-until the local koreans got it going FOR us,  shared a second beach campfire with a bunch of younger koreans that sung for us for an hour or so feeding us sashimi, wrestled on the beach, have an under the sea party of seaweed throwing, play frisbee, play hacky, drink more and more, eat raymyeon for a hungover breakfast from a little ol lady some of us were sure didnt like us because we kept going back to her store drunk until she came out and gave us our food ’she didnt have to make for us’ on a big ol’ nice place setting with free kimchi,  sunbake, swim, ah, and continue the celebration of cari’s birthday all the way back at GwangJu, for-a-few, and surprise cake at Ruth and Petes in Shinga.Top Weekend.

Glad this weeks only a 3 day week, time to plan the coming weekends 4 day weekend.

Episode #1

This weekend went off without a hitch, well, one hitch, Elementry Directors wedding was saturday, so a bunch of us went on down to see that, and enjoy a nice buffet afterwards. free food free booze, the works. the drinks continued down to the river, where the ground was a little slippery, i managed to fall on my ass , laying in some nice blue and purple bruises down one side, and then managed to fall in a waterfall while posing for a photo – it didnt work out.. Drinks continued , WA Bar, Shabu Shabu, and Big Fun, the last of which i dont quite remember much more than shots of Soju and Wrestling my neighbour, a big scottish guy in a kilt. after which, i have been told, that i put my self into a taxi at about 1 or 2, very responsible of me, as the rest were out till about 4 or 5 or 6, meanwhile while i was waiting for a taxi, i apparently got Hit by a taxi . in the hand we figure, as its bruised from having my watch rammed into it….. and blood was spotted, nto that i was aware of this…. fixed my watch though, i can change the time on it now, so that cool. sunday was sore, but not to bad.

Thats about the jist of my first blog entry on my first blog. im tryin to put a photo stream on the right, but i havent worked out how yet.

Cheers.
